SMARTPAY ENTERS NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH SNAPPER CARD - Targets small transaction market at transport hubs
Wednesday, September 28, 2011
AUCKLAND, 28 September 2011 - SmartPay
(NZX: SPY), a leading provider of payments and transactional
solutions in New Zealand and Australia, today announced it has
entered into a partnership to offer the Snapper contactless payment
solution on SmartPay's retail network via the PAX terminal
range.
Andrew Donaldson SmartPay CEO says the new partnership with
Snapper is a logical extension to SmartPay's service offering.
"It provides additional value to our core payment solution and
is a natural fit for our mobile and hospitality payments client
base, which is the country's largest.
"Accepting contactless payment with Snapper is a proven solution
that we already have in more than 2,800 taxis and targeted retail
outlets across the country. We are now working to extend that
capability into the retail sector so that it is easy for SmartPay's
customers to upgrade to New Zealand's leading contactless payment
system," says Donaldson.
Snapper provides consumers with the ability to make instant
everyday payments in the retail and transport sectors. Over 300,000
Snapper cards have been issued in New Zealand, generating over 50
million transactions across more than 1,000 buses, 2,800 taxis, and
500 retailers.
Smartpay has the largest mobile and hospitality payments
terminal base in NZ, a market that is well suited to the Snapper
solution and, in a bid to capture a bigger share of the small
transaction market the partners will also specifically target
merchants in New Zealand public transport hubs and general merchant
markets.
Miki Szikszai, Snapper CEO says, "Snapper has already started
growing its retail footprint through its partnership with SmartPay
using the PAX terminal range. What's great about these
terminals is the contactless reader is built into the handheld
EFTPOS terminal as an 'all-in-one' configuration. They are
very compact and ideal for a wide range of retail environments.
"The PAX range also includes a wireless mobile terminal (SP90)
that accepts payment by Snapper, which is perfect for bars,
restaurants or at short term events, enabling fast payment right at
the spot where customers are eating and drinking, instead of
queuing separately at the bar or counter to pay," says
Szikszai.
With its own in-house research and development team SmartPay can
quickly build and tailor the Snapper solution to its existing and
new customers' payments infrastructure.
"This is another example of innovation in the payments sector
and yet another way that SmartPay offers value added services to
its customers," says Donaldson.
